When I Met A Man Who Had No Shoes

WHEN I MET A MAN WHO HAD NO SHOESHe wouldn’t want me to use his name, so I won’t.

He’s a deacon with a young family. He has an incredibly demanding job with very little time off. When he does have any free time, he chooses to spend it with his family. He’s a great husband and dad.

Today, however, he and his wife had a day together. The kids were at their grandparents. It was a rare opportunity to truly relax and enjoy the day. They discussed what they wanted to do.
They called a local shelter set up for sick hurricane Katrina evacuees and asked if they needed any particular help. Of course they did. They desperately needed someone to sort the mountains of donated clothes… a thankless job.

During the course of the day, it was discovered that one of the old men in the shelter had no shoes. A search through the donated shoes revealed that none were available in his size. There was, however, one pair of shoes his size- they were on the feet of the young man. He went home sock-footed!

When his young son heard this story (incidentally… NOT from his dad), he said, “But those were your favorite shoes!”

Are they still making heroes? … Yeah. God is still making ‘em!

“The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of
mine, you did for me.’” - Matthew 25:40
