OUR HISTORY

In the summer of 1992 eleven families began to dream of a new congregation of the Lord's church to be located in The Woodlands, Texas. They were looking for a new direction, a new beginning, and they prayed to God for guidance. In January 1993 the dream became a reality as the new congregation, with eighty five in attendance, met for its first worship at the Woodlands Executive Conference Center. After only three weeks the group moved to the larger Interfaith Conference Center. The congregation grew quickly and in April 1993 leased a 3,700 square foot office space in The Woodlands.

During this early period the group focused on establishing leadership in elders and deacons, while the preaching minister role was filled on a part time basis. Many dedicated men stepped forward to fill this role during the early days.

Based on continuing growth the it was decided that a permanent facility was needed. So in 1995 a five acre tract of land was purchased at Alden Bridge Village of The Woodlands at the corner of the streets Alden Bridge E. and Crownridge. The land would eventually house a campus with multiple buildings for worship, bible classes and fellowship. Shortly thereafter construction started on the first phase of the campus, the worship center. In January 1999 Woodland Oaks Church of Christ held its first worship service in the new 13,000 square foot worship center. Word spread in the community and the congregation continued to grow. Over the next few years a full time preaching minister and a youth/family minister were hired. Average attendance in Sunday morning worship during this period was about 300 people.

In January 2008 the second phase of the campus was completed with a new 10,000 square foot education complex to house the children’s bible classes and office space. As The Woodlands community continued to grow, Woodland Oaks Church of Christ grew as well. Attendance in Sunday morning worship peaked at just over 600 during the year 2013.

In early 2013 the congregation embarked on the final phase of a 32,000 square foot campus expansion. This final phase includes a new worship center which allows as many as 850 people to worship together. A family center with a full gym hosts all types of fellowship and family activities. And an additional classroom building accommodates both children and adult classrooms. The campus includes a children’s play area, parking and multiple walkways for easy access to and from the buildings. The first worship service in the new worship center occurred on February 2, 2015 with 700 in attendance.

From those humble beginnings God has grown Woodland Oaks Church of Christ into a vibrant, active, and loving congregation with over 600 members and we are excited about the future. We live in one of the fastest growing residential areas in the United States in the suburbs of the fourth largest city in our nation. Our heart's desire is to be a community of God’s people fully devoted to loving God, loving our fellow man, growing in our faith and sharing the wonderful message of Jesus Christ.
